This grueling challenge is regarded as one of the most intense tests of a martial artist’s physical, mental, and spiritual endurance. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the adversity Hanshi faced leading up to the event. The 100-Man Kumite was held under the supervision of Japanese Grandmaster Ryogo Ito, a highly respected figure in the world of full-contact karate. Despite its significance, no martial arts organization or master from India supported Hanshi Shaswat Kumar. None of his own black belt students were able to participate in the fights. When Hanshi explained this to Grandmaster Ryogo Ito, the Japanese master gave special permission to gather black belt fighters from other karate styles. Fighters from various schools — including Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, Wado-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, and Kyokushin — came together. However, since many were unfamiliar with Kyokushin rules, the format had to be adjusted to traditional full-contact style instead of standard Kyokushin kumite rules. Even with this modification, Hanshi Shaswat Kumar’s determination and spirit deeply impressed Grandmaster Ryogo Ito, who officially recognized all 108 fights. This recognition is a testament to the immense willpower, skill, and dedication shown throughout the event. This historic accomplishment places Hanshi Shaswat Kumar among the highest ranks of full-contact martial artists worldwide and marks him as a true warrior of modern Budo. |
